Position: Delivery Driver/Sorter – ON CALL

Hours: Mornings or Afternoons as needed

Rate: Sorting-$10.93-$14.64 depending on experience

Driver-$14.49-$19.42 depending on experience

Job Description:

Sorter
Under the supervision of the PLS Delivery Supervisor, and/or the on-site Senior Delivery Sorter, the Delivery Sorter processes and sorts incoming materials from the PLS Interlibrary Delivery for the outgoing shipment the next day.

Examples of Duties: Sorts incoming library materials from a member library into the outgoing bin for the receiving member library. Arranges delivery bins for pickup by delivery drivers the next day.

Driver
Under the supervision of the PLS Delivery Supervisor, the Delivery Driver Delivers books, audiovisual materials, interoffice mail, supplies, furniture, and equipment to various library and other facilities in San Mateo County.

Examples of Duties: Load, unload, and deliver books and other library materials, equipment, and supplies to a variety of library sites and other locations within San Mateo county, along regularly scheduled routes.


Skills/Abilities Desired:
Driver Position requires bending, lifting, stretching, use of hand truck, twisting, squatting. Work demands occasional strenuous effort. For example, handling of moderately heavy boxes, moderately heavy tools, equipment, or materials of 30 to 50 pounds. The work involves risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines.
A valid California driver's license and good driving record are required.

Sorter must be able to lift 30 lb. loaded bin from the floor to a 3 ft. high conveyor belt and shift bins around on floor; good organizational skills; reliable; ability to work well with other staff; willingness and ability to work with little direct supervision.


Education:
No formal diploma required, but must have functional fluency in English and know how to alphabetize.
